Traumstillleben at the Artspace Dusseldorf

The solo exhibition, Traumstillleben, by New York based artist Josh Green will be on display October 17 -22 at the Artspace Dusseldorf, Neubruckstrasse 6, Dusseldorf, Germany.

Traumstillleben consists of still life oil paintings on canvas and wood panels painted in the style of classical western realism. The still lifes depict plaster sculptures and projected AI generated imagery. The goal of this body of work is to communicate a "hollowness" I am experiencing as someone who is living in a transitional age, one moving from old world beliefs (religion, superstition, animism) to new world beliefs (atheism, empiricism, nihilism). I use the stage of wester oil painting, a stage which depicted and propagated the beliefs of the past, and I have hollowed out the imagery. The light, space, and form are familiar, but what is depicted is alien and surreal.
